Shark Cake

A couple of weeks ago I made a shark cake for a 3 year old’s birthday party.  The colour scheme was kept simple with a range of aquatic blues and whites.  The two tiers added plenty of height and drama while allowing for plenty of swimming space for the sharks!

Jubilee Cakes

I’ve just landed in London and happened to catch the last day of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee (60 years on the throne) celebrations.  There’s plenty of bunting and flag waving so I thought I’d do round up of Diamond Jubilee Cakes.  The cakes shown here are all so very different in style!

Boy or Girl?

Pregnant? Are you going to find out if you are having a boy or a girl?  Have you heard of the gender reveal parties that are all the rage at the moment?  No?

A gender reveal party is an event where you tell your friends and family if you are expecting a little boy or a little girl.  The cake is the centre of attention and holds the secret!  Frosted in a pristine white, it hides either a pink or a blue interior.  That way when it’s sliced into, it’ll reveal the gender of the baby.

Want to be truly surprised?  You don’t even have to find out the gender of the baby first.  Get your obstetrician or ultrasound technician to write it on a slip of paper and place it in a sealed envelope.  Then hand that envelope to your baker!

This could easily be combined with a baby shower.  What a great way to celebrate the impending arrival of the baby and to tell your friends and family the gender in the truly unique way.  Just make sure your obstetrician is super certain of the result and no one minds if it turns out to be a boy or a girl!

Embossed Message Cookies

Do you need to send someone a message?  Perhaps “Thank You”, or “Happy Birthday Susan”,  or “Congratulations Max and Lilly”, or….well….anything you can think of!  I made these cookies last week to say a very special thank you to someone who was really helpful to me.

These cookies are vanilla sugar cookies, but tinted blue just for a change from your regular yellow cookie.  They can be made in a variety of colours to suit your mood or theme.

Also it only has a very tiny bit of icing to add some detail, so overall it isn’t a very sweet cookie, just buttery and vanilla-y!  Perfect if you like your cookies less sweet or for avoiding those kiddie sugar-highs at parties (their mummy and daddies will definitely thank you for this!).

And of course they can be customised with individual names.

Dr Seuss Birthday Party

These Thing 1 and Thing 2 cupcakes are just the perfect treat for a Dr Seuss themed party.  I love the bright primary colours which really make these cupcakes pop.  They are just so fun, they’re sure to bring a smile to people’s faces.

Wouldn’t this be great as a party for twins?
